Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award

The Pupil Library Assistant of the Year is lead by the SLA with CILIP SLG and it's inventor Barbara Band. It's organised by a steering committee and then judged by a separate panel of judges. The Award was launched in September 2014 and has been running since (with a small blip in 2021/2022) and the SLA taking the helm in 2023.

Nominations open in the Autumn term, with shortlisting in Spring Term for Summer Term announcement and ceremony.

Winner 2024

Year 11 student, Kotryna Kazlauskaite from St Hilda’s Church of England High School, Liverpool, was honoured at a special ceremony in London, hosted by digital media learning company, Pearson, on Friday 19th April. Reuben Colton of Watford’s Edge Grove School, who received a special commendation for his outstanding efforts in primary, was celebrated alongside Kotryna and the five other finalists.

Barbara Band, Chair of the PLAA Judging Panel said: "Kotryna’s nomination showed her personal story of how the library has helped her to develop, and how she has given back to the school community as a volunteer. We were particularly impressed with Kotryna’s article for the parents’ newsletter as this highlighted specific areas where the school library had impacted on all students.”

Sponsors

This award would not exist without the support of our sponsors. We have been extremely lucky to have so many wonderful organisations step up and support us through this process over the years. The award has been life-changing for the nominees and finalists, and this could not have happened without the time and commitment that our sponsors have put in.

This has not just been a financial commitment as many organisations have also donated time and space for the award. We owe you all a great debt of gratitude and express our heartfelt thanks for all that you have done and for your continued commitment.
