HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2018

HMDay 2018Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year, and is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution, and in the subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.  On HMD we honour the survivors of these regimes and challenge ourselves to work to end discrimination and prejudice; and pledge to help create a safer, better future.

THE 2018 THEME ‘THE POWER OF WORDS’
Each year HMD develops a theme.  The annual theme for HMD 2018 is The Power of Words, and it encourages people to think about how language has been used both in the past and in the present day, and the impact this can have, whether good or bad.

ORDER FREE ACTIVITY PACK
Please order a copy of our free activity pack which contains practical ideas for your event, a guide to this year’s theme, posters and other materials.  http://hmd.org.uk/content/order-or-download-activity-pack

DOWNLOAD LESSON & ASSEMBLY PLANS
Our resources for educators include a range of assemblies, lesson plans and activity templates for learners aged 7 to 18+. These are differentiated for varying abilities and SEN requirements, and are also suitable for informal learning groups, university students and adult learners.  http://hmd.org.uk/content/for-educators

POSTCARD PROJECT- SUITABLE FOR SCHOOLS & ANY HMD ACTIVITIES
The HMD 2018 Postcard Project is a simple and powerful activity.  You can choose to read and reflect on the life stories of either Renie Inow or Sedin Mustafić, before writing a postcard response to them.  If you send your completed postcards to the HMD offices,  you will receive a reponse from the individual you have written to. Postcards are available in packs of 30.  http://hmd.org.uk/education/hmd-2018-postcard-project
