Do you know someone who you think would be a good addition to the SLA Executive Committee? Someone who is knowledgeable, possibly experienced in Committee work, a strategic thinker with ideas about the future direction of the SLA and able to communicate with and get on with a wide range of people? Or would you be willing to stand for election yourself? Do you want to give back something to the profession?
Now is the time to get those nominations in - you have only until January 30th. The term of office will be three years, beginning at the SLA AGM in June 2007 and ending at the AGM in 2010.
The Executive Committee is the governing body of the Association, and plans at strategic level for its future. The Officers lead and guide the Executive, and some functions are delegated to them. The small dedicated team of paid staff, under the leadership of the Chief Executive, manage the day to day running of the Association.
Committee Members are expected to attend the three Saturday meetings each year, usually in London or Birmingham, and where possible to help out at our annual weekend courses and at exhibitions and trade shows when we have a stand. All expenses are covered by the SLA. In addition each member will be part of the Training Group or the Publications Group and will take part in the work of these groups, which meet as part of the main Committee meetings
Past members of the Executive tell us that ‘I gained far more than I gave', that their careers and CVs were enhanced by membership of the SLA Executive, and that they made some real, long-lasting friends!
