The School Library Association announces the first Hachette Children’s Group Award for Outstanding Contribution to Information Books

Hachette GroupIn partnership with Hachette Children’s Group, sponsors of the Information Book Award, the School Library Association announces the first Hachette Children’s Group Award for Outstanding Contribution to Information Books.

The award will be presented at the 2017 Information Book Award celebration on 22nd November 2017 at Carmelite House in London.

IBA Illus WEBLooking at a whole body of work rather than any one title, the criteria for this new award is intended to highlight authors and illustrators who offer consistent quality and a significant contribution to information books, working across a range of topics. In this first year the prize has been voted for by a panel of school librarians and the judges of the Information Book Award.  In the future, interested organisations will be invited to submit nominations to the panel, and then take part in a voting process to determine the winners.

Tricia Adams, Director, School Library Association comments: ‘The Information Book Award has already raised the profile of quality information books in school libraries and elsewhere. With this new award we are looking forward to doing the same for the profiles of the authors and illustrators of these excellent books who are often less well known to the public than their fiction contemporaries.’

Hilary Murray Hill, CEO, Hachette Children’s Group comments: ‘The Hachette Children’s Group is very proud to sponsor both the Information Book Award and the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Information Books. Non-fiction publishing is central to our business and we are honoured to work with the School Library Association to raise the profile of this important community of authors and illustrators.’
