Introduction to the SLA in Dutch

De School Library Association (SLA) is gevestigd in het Verenigd Koninkrijk maar heeft leden in geheel Europa en de rest van de wereld. Iedereen die zich inzet voor de ontwikkeling van onderwijsbibliotheken en mediatheken wordt uitgenodigd om zich bij de SLA aan te sluiten. De voertaal van SLA is Engels.

SLA adviseert en traint haar leden en publiceert het vaktijdschrift ‘The School Librarian’. SLA heeft regionale en lokale afdelingen in Engeland en Wales en nationale afdelingen in Schotland, Noord Ierland en de Ierse Republiek. Het beleid is gericht op de ontwikkeling en professionalisering van onderwijsbibliotheken / mediatheken en onderwijsbibliothecarissen en mediathecarissen. In 2004 is de ‘SLA Schoolbibliothecaris Van Het Jaar prijs’ ingesteld, ter onderstreping van het vele goede werk dat in mediatheken wordt verricht. SLA bevordert tevens de ontwikkeling van onderwijsbibliotheken / mediatheken door jaarlijks mee te doen aan ‘International School Library Day’ (ISLD) op de eerste maandag van oktober.

De missie van SLA

  • We geloven dat elke leerling recht heeft op een professionele mediatheek. De SLA ondersteunt iedereen die op enigerlei wijze is betrokken bij mediatheken en de promotie van effectieve en kwalitatief hoogstaande leesbevordering- en mediatheekprogramma’s.

SLA beantwoordt graag alle in de Engelse taal gestelde vragen over onderwijsbibliotheken en mediatheken in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
