Whole school

  • Staff/student book quiz
  • Cheese and wine party for teachers to show off new resources
  • Teacher storytelling / bookreading / favourite book slot at lunchtime
  • Staff/student poetry slam
  • Library screensavers on all school pcs
  • Library survey
  • Launch library weblog/website
  • Arrange an exhibition of the latest titles - or the most bizarre books/titles, oldest, biggest, most issued etc
  • Librarian job swap with another (senior) member of staff for the day
  • Act out extracts of favourite books in assembly
  • Interview with the Headteacher by students about the role and importance of the school library for the school newspaper or website
  • Large footprints all over school leading to library

Wider community

  • Have students interview parents and school staff to find out what school libraries were like when they were at school or to show how your library has changed. Share stories about changes in the school libraries over the years and search the archives for material. Display quotes from the interviews and photos

ALL ACTIVITIES

  • Have students report on all events in the school newspaper, on the school library website and in a report to Governors
