It is with regret the children’s book magazine Carouse has announced its closure: The Guide to Children’s Books has ceased publication after 24 years in circulation. The magazine which published 3 times a year and run on a voluntary basis, informed its readers about the world of children’s books and in later years was the only print-based magazine in the UK entirely focused on this topic. Over the years it built up a strong reputation for the quality of its articles, with many authors and key figures regularly contributing, and also the independence of its book reviews. In the summer of 2019, the current partners, Elaine and David Chant, announced to the editorial team that they would be standing down after the autumn/winter issue. Since that time the team have actively sought new partners to take on the day to day running of the magazine and role of editor in chief. Although there have been several expressions of interest and offers of support, it has not been possible to find anyone able to take on this significant role. The partners would like to thank all the publishers, children’s literary organisations and independent booksellers who have supported Carousel over many years with advertising, providing review books and access to authors and illustrators. Particular thanks go to the Federation of Children’s Book Groups, an organisation which has worked closely with the magazine since it first began.Publishers should cease sending review copies to Carousel with immediate effect.
