04 October 2019 Share

NLW 7th - 12th October 2019

Publishers and Bookshops are joining in the message that books and reading are fun. One of the prolific children’s book publishing houses has made available resources to help schools promote the week, but do check for others too:

Celebrate Libraries Week with Walker Books

Walker Books would love to join you in celebrating National Libraries Week with two special offers for libraries nationwide.

Look out for A Child of Books, now out in paperback, the inspiring picture book by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston about the rewards of reading and sharing stories - perfect for readers of all ages.

Share which books made you “A Child of Books”, using the giant postcard which you can download here, and posting on social media, tagging @WalkerBooksUK @uksla #achildofbooks #librariesweek.

Or create a display in your library using A Child of Books posters, available to download here.  You could win £100 of Walker Books for your very own “Child of Books” library for the most creative display! Simply email jo.humphreys-davies@walker.co.uk with a photo by 31 October 2019.

Celebrate Libraries Week with an exclusive poem reflecting on the power of stories and the joy of reading written specially for libraries by acclaimed performance poet Sophia Thakur.

Described by Angie Thomas, author of The Hate U Give, as “one of the most brilliant and necessary voices from the UK”, Sophia is the author of Somebody Give This Heart a Pen, a powerful new collection of poems drawing on her experience as a young mixed-race young woman trying to make sense of a lonely and complicated world -  poetry that will resonate with all young people, whatever their background, and whatever their dreams.
