The Northern Ireland Book Award was first set up in 2009 to provide a local book award for our young people, and since 2018 has been run by the School Library Association in Northern Ireland. Nominations are sought from school librarians and teachers, and the SLANI committee have the unenviable task of whittling these down to a shortlist full of fun and stimulating reads!

Our young people shadow the award though school reading groups, and each school is provided with a pack containing activity ideas and discussion questions. The highlight of the award is the grand finale, where each reading group is invited to attend a fun celebration to discover which book THEY have chosen as their winner.

The shortlist will be announced after Christmas, along with full details of how to register to take part in the award process. You can follow the award on twitter [at]NI_BookAward, or visit our website
