New resources on revamped website
Poetry By Heart has launched the 2021 competition for school students to
CHOOSE A POEM - LEARN IT BY HEART - PERFORM IT OUT LOUD
Poetry by Heart is a national poetry recitation competition and a website for teaching and learning about poetry - by heart and out loud. Now in its seventh year it was founded by former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion and educator Dr Julie Blake and is funded with the support of the Department for Education.
There are new resources, including a revised website with school age group tags, a Parentzone, lots of new online poems for librarians and teachers to use, and a poetry calendar that has gone to every state secondary school in England.
The Poetry Society's education team linked to the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award has created the 'Shelfie' - a virtual poetry book shelf - to make up for libraries being closed.
'Shelves' of poetry book recommendations chosen by and for young people, and ones specially picked for classroom reading; a selection of anthologies and collections with new shelves being created all the time. The education team are also interested in any young people that want to share their own shelfie.
They are also asking people to email them if they would like book ideas for a particular group or on a theme.
Check their website and register your students now. More details here.
