Biggest teen poetry competition in the world celebrates receiving 250,000 entries

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award: the biggest English language poetry competition in the world for young people aged 11–17 reaches an enormous milestone

The Poetry Society are pleased to announce that the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award has hit a milestone in the history of the award, the competition has received a colossal 250,000 entries! 

Since the Award began just over 20 years ago, over a quarter of a million poems have been penned by young writers from every corner of the world. As the Foyle Young Poets Award has gone from strength-to-strength, the competition has kick- started the careers of some of today’s most esteemed poets, including Jay Bernard, Sarah Howe, Helen Mort, Phoebe Power, Caroline Bird, Mukahang Limbu, Richard O’Brien and many more! 

To celebrate 250,000 entries, The Poetry Society are offering young people a chance to receive a poetry workshop led by one of their poet tutors, delivered to them and their classmates at school. To be included in the prize draw, submit a poem into the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award anytime between 10am, Monday 9 May – 10am, Wednesday 1 June 2022 (one poem = one entry).
