On National Poetry Day 2021, Connor Allen and Casi Wyn have been named as the new Welsh poet laureates for children.

Allen, a poet, actor and multidisciplinary artist from Newport, will take on the role of Children’s Laureate Wales, while Wyn, a singer and writer from Bangor, will take on the role of Bardd Plant Cymru, which is the Welsh-language Children’s Laureate.

Their two-year tenure will begin this autumn and Literature Wales, the national company for literature development in Wales, says that both poets will contribute towards nurturing a "healthier, more creative, and more diverse generation of readers and writers across Wales".

Working primarily with young people between the ages of five and 13, their two simultaneous projects will run alongside one another and are managed by Literature Wales, with Bardd Plant Cymru supported by the Welsh government, S4C, Books Council of Wales and Urdd Gobaith Cymru.
