Including, for the first time, a Children's and YA Prize
First awarded in 2017, the Jhalak Prize celebrates books by British/British resident BAME writers. And, for the first time, 2021 sees the release of a Jhalak Children's and YA Prize long list, recognising the work of writers of colour specifically aimed at young readers.
Both prizes are unique in that they accept entries published in the UK exclusively by writers of colour. These include, but are not limited to, fiction, non fiction, short stories, graphic novels, poetry and all other genres.
Twelve books have made the long list for the Children's and YA Prize, which is to be judged by authors Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Candy Gourlay and Verna Allette Wilkins.
The shortlist for the Children's and YA prize will be announced on 13th April, with the winner announced on the 25th May.
