New poetry competition launched

150 words to celebrate 150 years of state education

The past year has marked the 150th Anniversary of the 1870 Education Act, which created the foundations of state education in England. The Foundation for Education Development are celebrating this anniversary by inviting students of all ages across the country to enter their poetry competition and be in with a chance of winning up to £50 in book vouchers, a visit to the place of education by a poet and for the poem to be published.

Competition Details:

The competition is open to all age groups with a winner and runners up in each category (envisaged as: primary, secondary, post 16).

Young poets are invited to write a poem of up to 150 words to:

  •  Celebrate - What school means to you 
  •  Reflect - How you think schools should be 
  •  Envision - What you think about the future of education 

The deadline for submissions is 6pm on Friday 22th October 2021.
