Orwell Youth Prize deadline extended

The Orwell Youth Prize 2021 is open for entrants.

This year The Orwell Youth Prize are seeking creative responses to their theme of ‘A New Direction: Starting Small’.

Submissions in the form of journalism, essays, short stories, blog posts, poems and plays are all welcomed. And this year, a brand new game design category has been announced, giving entrants even more freedom to respond to the theme in their own, unique way.

Entering will provide students with the chance to have their work published, as well as to win a both a cash prize and books for themselves and their school.

Work submitted as a first draft by 29th April 2021 will receive personalised feedback, with final entires to be submitted before the closing date of 4th June 2021.

For school staff looking to find out more about the prize, a free intro and Q&A session to this year's theme will take place on 3rd March. There will also be the opportunity for you to share your ideas around how the programme can be developed to become better for you and your students. For tickets, click here.

The Orwell Youth Prize is an annual programme for students in year 8 – 13 (or equivalent) culminating in a writing prize. Rooted in Orwell’s values of integrity and fairness, the prize and the activities around it introduce young people to the power of language and provoke them to think critically and creatively about the world in which they are living.
