From The English Association
The English Association has presented the shortlist for the 2020 English 4-11 Picture Book Awards for books published between 1 Jan 2019 to 31 December 2019. This year, they received a record total of 333 entries, out of which 38 were longlisted and 17 have been shortlisted.
The English 4-11 Picture Book Awards was established in 1995 and are presented by the English Association to the best children's picture books of a given year. Awards are given to Fiction and Non-Fiction in age ranges 4-7 years and 7-11 years. This year’s shortlisted books demonstrated the equal importance of word and image, where each working with the other created the perfect synergy of picture and text. The illustrations were imaginative and of high artistic value, engaging and visually appealing. The shortlist was selected by the editorial board of the English 4-11 journal published by The English Association and the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA), from a long list selected by a panel of teachers and their students, and primary specialists.
The winners will be announced at the English Association's Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 25 November 2020 at the British Academy in London.
