Blogs/News: Egmont Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards

The inaugural Egmont Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards  in association with the Open University and the UK Literacy Association have taken place.  The winners were announced by Michael Rosen at the Reading for Pleasure symposium at The Open University on Thursday 22 March:

Whole School Award – St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School, Birmingham

Experienced Teacher – Jon Biddle, Moorlands Primary School, Belton, Norfolk

Early Career Teacher – Emily Crumbleholme, Peover Superior Primary School, Knutsford

You can read their inspiring submissions on the OU website and watch short videos of Michael interviewing each winner.

 The awards are intended to:

  • Highlight research-based effective practice in schools
  • Encourage teachers, who are finding different and effective methods of nurturing a love of reading
  • Amplify the message about the critical importance of reading for pleasure for society and the wider economy
