Downside School, Radstock -Library Assistant, Part-Time/Term Time Only - closing date tomorrow!

We are looking to appoint a part-time Library Assistant, who has experience in a similar educational setting or a bookshop, and who has a passion for libraries, archives and information services.

The successful candidate should have the ability to work with a wide range of materials including books, journals and the internet. You will undertake all duties in connection with the day-to-day operation of the Library which includes the issue and return of books, dealing with enquiries, associated clerical work and enforcing the Library Code of Conduct.

Downside is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 11 to 18, and one of England’s oldest and most distinguished Catholic schools. The school is situated at the foot of the Mendip Hills, twelve miles south of the city of Bath.

Whilst we are looking for someone to start on the 1st September, you will ideally be available (part-time hours to be mutually agreed) for training in August, before the start of term.

It is essential that the appointed person is flexible, enthusiastic and willing to undertake a variety of tasks. The role involves being able to move and shelve a quantity of books, and also deal with book stock across our suite of libraries, some of which are on the first floor only accessible by stairs.

We can offer:

  • 14 hours per week. Hours of work are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 6-9pm, plus 7-9pm on a Wednesday.
  • salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications
  • Term time only position (34 weeks + 5 days for Inset / Training)
  • A supportive, skilled and innovative staff team.
