Applications are invited for the above post based in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Tiffin School, a leading boys’ grammar school in Kingston upon Thames, rated Outstanding by Ofsted.  Tiffin School is a vibrant community of 1200 boys and over 100 staff.  The borough of Kingston upon Thames is approximately 30 minutes from central London by train, and has a well-developed transport network. The town has an attractive riverside quarter, a large shopping district and is located near Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common and Hampton Court Palace.

The LRC is a much used space at the heart of the School.  Always busy with pupils, it is a hugely exciting facility, set over two floors, with dramatic, award-winning architecture.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated information professional to run the Learning Resource Centre.  You will:

  • manage the LRC staff including the study centre supervisor and the LRC assistant;
  • supervise staff and students in the LRC and the Sixth Form study room to promote an atmosphere and culture of independent study;

  • provide training to staff and students on the use of the Library as a learning resource;
  • develop and maintain links with external agencies including Kingston Youth library service, local and national literary groups and other organisations as appropriate;
  • suggest reading materials and resources for the different age groups within the school, both for curriculum and enrichment;
  • run events and promotions to encourage reading and the love of learning.

Ideally, the person appointed will have experience of working in a library, preferably a school library, and have experience in managing staff.  With first class interpersonal and IT skills, you will be an excellent communicator and be confident in your ability to work independently using your initiative.

This post is for 36 hours a week term time plus one week in the summer holidays on an incremental salary scale of £23,115 - £26,019 FTE (£20,448 - £23,017 pro rata).  We would consider applications from those wishing to work part-time.
