Librarians in Independent Prep Schools in the South East of England

Founded in January 2009, LIPSSEE is a support group geared specifically to the needs and interests of anyone working in any capacity in a Prep School library. So members include not only qualified librarians but volunteer mums, some teachers and teaching assistants and pretty much anyone in-between! We presently have around 90 members mainly from London and the south east, as this was our initial catchment area, but increasingly we are welcoming Prep School librarians from elsewhere in the country! We also do not exist in glorious isolation but actively support and are supported by the major national school library organisations such as CILIP(SLG), SLA and SLS.

The attraction of LIPSSEE is that it is run on a very informal basis and offers a network of friendly, supportive colleagues always ready and willing to share library experiences, exchange ideas and information and explore new possibilities. We hold meetings twice a year, taking it in turns to host and during term time circulate a regular fortnightly newsletter. Our website -https://preplibs.wordpress.com/ will tell you a lot more about us.  If you like what you see - new members are always welcome and membership is completely free! Just contact the group’s founder and co-ordinator Denise Reed at denise.reed[at]ardingly.com

LIPSSEE have also produced Guidelines for Prep School Libraries - a PDF is available to download.
