New Resources for creative writing

What the DickensFrom Oliver Twist to A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens created some of literature’s most vivid, memorable and endearing characters. But you may not know that, as well as leaving the world an exceptional body of creative work for generations to enjoy, Charles Dickens also campaigned for appropriate copyright legislation to protect the work of authors.

What the Dickens? has been devised by teachers and developed in association with the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society to celebrate the genius of Charles Dickens and to explore the issue of copyright. The exciting upper KS2 and KS3 English programme gives students an opportunity to learn more about the art of creative writing and the importance of copyright. It is supported by video insights from leading contemporary writers.

A fantastic online What the Dickens? Creative Writing Competition enables students to put their new skills into practice, with great prizes for students and their school. The students can use the pages of the digital book to make notes on characters, settings and themes as they complete each of the four lessons, submitting their entries at the end of the programme.
