logo for read a million words in WalesOne of the main focuses of NYR in Wales is further development of Read a Million Words in Wales, the initiative aiming to get boys between 9 and 14 years reading, particularly those who are less enthusiastic or less able.

The Welsh Assembly has now identified additional funding which will go directly to secondary schools in Wales to enable them to purchase resources.  The amount will vary between £800 and £1,200 depending on the size of the school.
