Panel discussion focused on practical ways to engage boys who are reluctant readers and inspire a lifelong love of reading. We'll be joined by Puffin author, Isaac Hamilton-McKenzie, School Librarian, Leia Sands, and Duncan Wright, Sales Development Representative at Accessit Library. The session will be chaired by SLA Trustee and author Philip Kavvadias. Attendees of the panel are guaranteed an early proof of Jamaal Target: Phantom Agent by Isaac Hamilton McKenzie. Alex Rider meets Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse in this fast-paced, action-packed middle-grade series about an ordinary boy who discovers he has extraordinary powers – the solo debut from the co-writer of The Breakfast Club series, with Marcus Rashford. Limited additional proofs will be available on a first-come-first served basis at Isaac’s signing after the event.

Join 2026 Carnegie Medal for Writing nominated authors, Nicola Garrard and Tasneem Abdur-Rashid for a conversation exploring empathetic, issue-led fiction. Nicola and Tasneem will discuss how the issues affecting young people have evolved over the years, exploring the ways in which fiction has risen to the challenge of reflecting the modern experiences of childhood and adolescence, drawing on the examples of their own acclaimed titles, On the Edge and Odd Girl Out, both of which have been both chosen by the EmpathyLab for their Read for Empathy Collection 2026. We will also explore the vital role of school librarians in recommending the right books to the right young people. The session will be chaired by SLA Vice-Chair of Trustees Lynsey Pollard.

Emma and Alex sit on the board of Share The Vision, a coalition of UK organisations working to improve the quality, availability and accessibility of library services for people who can't access standard print.
