Mentoring Scheme

In response to suggestions from members, the SLA runs a mentoring scheme for new solo school librarians. This can be a useful way to gain support and advice from our community of members.

We can put 'newbies' in touch with existing school librarians who are willing to provide help and support to someone new in post. You may not have worked in a school before and you may well find your first few weeks and months in post challenging and a little overwhelming!

The SLA will provide support materials and advice and do our best to match mentors with mentees, but most of the work has to be done through the help and generosity of our members.

To become a 'mentee', please contact us at the SLA Office on 01793 530166 or by email to dawn.woods[at]sla.org.uk.

Become a mentor

Would you like to mentor a new professional?

Do you have loads of things you wish you had known when you first started in school librarianship? Would you like to pass on your experience and knowledge to someone just beginning their professional journey? We are looking for members who are prepared to give a little time to mentoring a new school librarian - it could be in a primary, special or secondary school. We are very grateful for our members who are willing to be generous with their time and help others.

If you are interested please contact us on 01793 530166 or email dawn.woods[at]sla.org.uk and put 'New Mentor' in the title. Many thanks in advance.
