Recent training

Graphic Novels and Comic Books, 14 November at Parkwood E-ACT Academy, Sheffield

Paul Register did an introduction to what graphic novels are, followed by The Evolution of Visual Literacy, then The Evolution of the Modern Comic Book and finished with Publishers Without Capes and Tights.

Paul has been working in or with school libraries since the year 2000 – four different secondary schools plus a 6th form college.  He has had line management responsibilities for staff, spent several years as a form tutor and had a three-year period where he worked as an educational speaker and library consultant (under the moniker “Bloke of Steel), during which time he visited many schools and educational conferences in England, Scotland, Ireland and even the Netherlands.  He has a vast amount of experience of working in school libraries (good and bad) but is probably most well-known for the Excelsior Award, which is still the biggest book award for graphic novels and manga in the UK.  He has a degree in English Studies and a strong interest in social class.  These two things combined have resulted in his favourite writers being George Orwell, JRR Tolkien and Alan Moore.
