Steve Antony becomes SLA School Libraries Champion!

Date: 03 March 2023

The award-winning author-illustrator will take over designing the covers for TSL

The SLA are delighted to welcome author-illustrator Steve Antony as our brand new School Libraries Champion!

As part of this role, Steve will create new school library themed artwork for the cover of each issue of our quarterly journal, TSL, taking over from Patron and former President, Chris Riddell, who has been designing absolutely beautiful covers for the journal since our 2017 Autumn edition.

We'd like to say a huge thanks to Chris for all his hard work over the years. We've loved seeing every piece of stunning artwork you've come up with that has made each journal so special, and we know that Steve will do a wonderful job of continuing to build on this incredible legacy for TSL.

Meet your School Libraries Champion...

Steve Antony is an award-winning writer and illustrator of 22 children’s books, 7 of which have been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and is best known for his ongoing Mr Panda series, which has sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

As well as his new role as SLA School Libraries Champion, Steve is Swindon Libraries Patron to Children’s Reading Services and an ambassador for the National Literacy Trust.

Borrowing illustrated books from both his public and school library is what inspired Steve to draw and write his own, so he is a firm believer that books can be life-changing - and that everyone deserves access to them.

We couldn't be more excited to have Steve in our corner, and to share this tiny teaser of his very first TSL cover! What's more, the artwork for this upcoming journal will reveal the cover of Steve's latest picture book!

Keep your eyes peeled for that, as well as a Q&A with Steve, as our first TSL of 2023 starts descending through your letterboxes in a few weeks...
