Reading Journeys: A Pathway to Wellbeing

Join us for an insightful webinar that will delve into the transformative power of reading, exploring how it can improve wellbeing, foster positive emotions and forge strong connections in young people.

The relationship between reading and wellbeing is gaining increasing interest (most recently in Ofsted's Reading Framework) as we continue to seek a better understanding of if - and how - reading books supports children and young people’s mental health and happiness.

Building on findings from candid, in-depth interviews with children and young people of various ages, this webinar will provide you with valuable, first-hand perspectives of young people’s reading experiences and the many ways that fiction can support their personal growth.

Session aims:
- discuss findings from the Reading and Wellbeing project at Edinburgh University
- explore how reading fiction supports wellbeing, focusing on positive emotions, connection and personal growth
- provide insights for those working with children and young people on how to use these findings to improve the quality and depth of children and young people’s reading experiences

Speaker

Nicola Currie was a Research Fellow on the Leverhulme Trust Reading and Wellbeing project, exploring readers’ perceptions of whether, and how, reading narrative fiction supports wellbeing, across the lifespan.  She is currently Lecturer in Psychology at Edge Hill University and is interested in understanding cognitive and affective aspects of reading.
