The School Library Association offers a wide range of on demand and real time training to enhance the personal and professional development of everyone who works in school libraries.

Online training and events 

Take part in high-quality online training at a time that's convenient to you. Our online sessions bring the experts directly to you.

  • Six free member webinars per year covering a range of themes including wellbeing, SEND, genre, engaging reluctant readers and more!

Paid Online Training 

These specialised sessions focus on the core elements of school librarianship. 

  • Twilight Skills sessions focused on quick, actionable takeaways for your school library - from organising collections to developing effective library practices 
  • New to School Libraries training package, an introductory course covering core principles, ideal for those who are new to school librarianship

On Demand  

Our programme of on demand training is there when you want it. Choose from 1 hour webcasts to whole day online courses (like MOOCs) all of which can be completed at a time which suits you, and are written especially for the SLA.

Member Meet Ups 

Member meet ups are a great way to extend your knowledge through online conversation with colleagues via Microsoft Teams. This session will be on a particular theme so everyone attends ready to share, listen and learn. These are driven by member demand, so if there's a topic you want to discuss let us know.

In-person Training

An opportunity to experience training in person, network with colleagues and share best practice. We are developing new training opportunities and from academic year 2026, will deliver training in local branch regions every term. More information about our new opportunities will be coming soon.

Annual Conference 

Our popular annual conference runs in June every year. In 2026, the conference will be held in Winchester, Hampshire where we will be looking at the theme of 'Changing Narratives'.
