Chief Executive Officer

Victoria has worked in education for 20 years, initially as a school librarian herself and then leading national education programmes for organisations such as National Literacy Trust, Royal Horticultural Society and Young Enterprise.  An avid reader from a young age, Victoria believes in the power of stories to transform and is excited to be advocating for school libraries, and to expand the reach of the SLA so that more schools around the country can enjoy the benefits of vibrant, well-resourced and well-used school libraries, helping children and young people to fulfil their full potential.

Hazel Murrell 

Community Engagement Officer

Hazel has worked with children’s literature and school libraries for over 10 years, including experience of working as a School Librarian and as an Advisory Librarian and Manager for a School Library Service. Bringing her passion for children’s books, she is driven to ensure schools have quality resources, knowledgeable staff and creative opportunities to make the library the heart of every school.  Hazel is keen to ensure our networks thrive and is on hand to provide support and advice to our members.

Vicki Harris

Training and Events Officer

Vicki has 25 years’ experience in education, her career has been mainly focused in the field of learning and development for schools, working in Local Authority, the School Library Service and running her own library consultancy business. In her role at the SLA, Vicki combines her love of reading and school libraries with her passion for all children and young people reaching their full potential.  She is keen to develop inspirational, insightful and innovative routes to training and events for the SLA. 

Saira Aspinall

Marketing and Communications Officer

Saira brings over 15 years of experience in the publishing and the children's book world to her role as Marketing and Communications Officer at the School Library Association. She is passionate about showcasing the transformative impact of school libraries through engaging content and positive communications, as well as working with our partners to celebrate and encourage reading for pleasure and advocate for the role of school librarians. Jan Lawson

Membership and Sales Officer

Jan Lawson has dedicated over 30 years to the field of sales and customer engagement, with a particular focus on supporting educational establishments. Throughout her career, she has provided invaluable assistance with digital services, qualifications, publishing, and most recently, library services. Jan is known for her unwavering commitment to customer focus, ensuring that support and customer experience are at the heart of every interaction.

Becky West

Operations Officer

Becky leads on our quarterly journal The School Librarian and oversees the SLA Awards. Since joining the team in 2022, she has been dedicated to highlighting excellence in school librarianship and championing thought-provoking contributions to the field. Becky plays a key role in ensuring our members can easily access everything the SLA has to offer, from resources and professional insight to recognition opportunities.
