On Demand Course: Leading School Libraries
Being in charge of the school library means you are responsible for its development and impact - but how do you know how to do this? Leadership can seem scary, but leadership exists at all levels of seniority and is vital for school libraries.

This course demystifies leadership within school libraries and guides you through developing yourself as a leader, managing staff, volunteers and pupils, and by doing this, ensuring your school library is connected to the wider school.

Everybody who works in a school is a part of a team, each with their own role to play and leadership to offer. This course is the equivalent of a one day training course and provides a valuable foundation, with exercises and reflection tasks, as well as options for further learning at the end of each module. Each delegate receives a certificate on completion of the course.

The modules are:

1) What makes a great leader? - Discusses the characteristics of a good leader, and the skills and competencies needed.

2) Your role and organisation - This modules looks at acknowledging what you want for yourself and your role and leading from the middle.

3) Growing Support Networks - Isolation for leaders and for school library staff can be a significant challenge, so this module explores how to combat that; whether in school or beyond.

4) Leadership in Practice - This module focuses on the operational side of things - getting things done - from organisation to management, project management to creativity.

5) Managing People - working with volunteers, students and/or paid team members is a unique skillset. This module looks at recruitment, inductions, appraisals and development.

6) Keep on Growing - The final module looks at change, impact, lifelong development, and reflection to ensure your leadership and learning doesn't stop when you finish this course.
