SLA Support for Authors

We recognise that publishing is a vital part in getting children reading, so we want to inform as many people as possible about the books which are produced to ensure everyone has something they can read.

Get your book reviewed

Our journal has approximately 30 pages of book reviews, and we post additional ones online. We don't guarantee a review, and we don't post negative reviews. All the book reviews are now searchable by members including tags - giving them extra life as teachers and library staff create book lists. Send to: The Reviews Editor, The School Library Association, 1 Pine Court, Swindon, Wiltshire SN2 8AD, UK

All reviews are sent to publishers if they are reviewed, though there will be a slight delay in doing this (you can always buy the journal to see them straight away!).

Draw your book to our members' attention

With an SLA members only competition or giveaway in one of our digital newsletters or via social media.

Send copy and ideal timeframes to [email protected] and we’ll get back to you with the best placement for it.

Enter the  Information Book Award

If you write, create or publish Information Books or know someone who does this may be of interest to you.  Check out our IBA page for further information.

Support our Awards

As well as the Information Book Award we run the Primary School Library of the Year, Secondary School Librarian of the Year, the Community and the Enterprise of the Year Award, as well as leading the Pupil Library Assistant Award. None of these awards are financially supported by membership money.

The Awards are important in telling positive stories about school libraries and get a lot of attention from both the publishing, library and educational community. There are plenty of ways to support the Awards, from headline sponsorship to donating prizes, to helping us spread the word.

Weekend Course

Make sure you’re on our mailing list for information about the annual Weekend Course - we are always looking for speakers, authors, illustrators for a wide audience, or come as a delegate to make connections and find out what's going on in the world of school librarianship.

To find out more about the Weekend Course have a look at our dedicated page. To join the mailing list please email [email protected]

Do an event with us

We run Publishers' Roadshows a few times a year, and we also run Meet the Creator - a video and podcast to help school staff and parents meet new creators and learn about books they haven't heard of.

Get in touch with us at [email protected] to find out more.

Support us

As a charity, our focus is on helping those that need it. But that means we need your help too. Whether it's volunteering, fundraising or donations, it makes a huge difference to the number of pupils we're able to support.

Training

The School Library Association offers a wide range of on demand and real time training to enhance the personal and professional development of everyone who works in school libraries.

Additional Support

There are a number of organisations and charities who work in the arena of information literacy and reading for pleasure. The SLA enjoys strong partnerships with organisations across the sector, and they offer some fantastic resources and support.
